As a young man, Chris Gardner was a salesperson struggling to meet needs from end to end – rent, bills, education for his son, time, etc. What made him succeed after a few years of struggling was his ability to spot opportunities and he being observant. The opportunity came when passing by through a stock broker company he met a neatly dressed stock broker professional, had a good conversation, and found opportunity in the conversation. While observing the surrounding he found most people walking are smiling… and through his pursuit of happiness, he tried his hand at it to work in the firm as intern.
It was a hard decision for Chris to move backward, from being a professional salesperson to working as an unpaid intern in thfor 6 months, but his hardwork paid off. Here are some work ethics in the movie I observed that made him succed than the rest of the interns:
- He did not hang the phone in between calls
- Hid did not take coffees and water during office hours
One noteable quote that is worth shadowing in the movie was that when he was talking to his kid Chris Jr after playing ball:
“Do not let anyone destroy your dreams, not even me. Go for your dreams.”
